Last Few Weeks of My Senior Year

The past few weeks of school have been very fun and a bit stressful because I had Spring break and figured out things for college and graduation.

For Spring Break, I stayed home the whole time and cleaned up rooms around the house and did things that my parents were very appreciative of me. The last few days of break, my mom was off so that she could get a head start on making food for Easter. When she was off, I helped her since I enjoy making and baking food as well. That Friday of break, my sister also came back home for Easter. The next day, my sister and I made deviled eggs, colored hard boiled eggs, got little Easter gifts ready for the three children we babysit from our church to give to the next day, and we also did cut out sugar cookies and frosted them.

We went back to school and it has kind of been a little bit difficult to want to come to school since we only have 3 weeks left but I have been pushing through and trying to get the best grades that I can so that I do not have to take finals at the end. Something else that has made this time busy is trying to get all the components ready for sending out graduation announcements and the graduation party invitations out as well. We have also been making sure I get everything done on time for me going to college next year because those due dates are fast approaching and are definitely making it feel more real than it has felt in the past few months.

At the time that I am writing this, I only have 12 days of school left, not counting finals because hopefully I will not have to take them. After I am done with school, I will still have to come back a few times because we will still have the graduation practice and before that is the senior breakfast. There are a few other days that we are able to go to as well like the baccalaureate and senior awards that I do not have to go to but is encouraged. There is also a senior parade the Saturday before graduation, but I sadly will not be able to go to that because that is when my sister is graduating from Eastern Illinois University and I am not sure what we are going to be doing after that is done. Something else that I am excited for is the graduate walk-through, when we get to take our final walk through the high school halls, it is going to be sad but also exciting. Then, the last thing that I will be coming to the high school for is the actual graduation. Then, after graduation is all done, my parents are putting together a party at our house for friends and family to come and celebrate.

I hope that you enjoyed reading about my senior year as much as I enjoyed keeping a blog on it. Thanks again!

Few More Weeks at Home

These past few weeks have been mostly the same as the few weeks before. I have been doing all of my homework through Google Classroom. The only good thing about doing my homework through Google Classroom is that I do not have to do P.E. and if there are any tests in my classes, I will have more time to study for them since I am not at school to take them. Other than those two types of assignments, I have been able to stay caught up with all of my classes so that when I do go back to school, I will not have to do all these assignments that were from two months ago.

I have also been going to a lot of doctors appointments because of the surgery I had at the beginning of January. The last one I went to, my doctor said that I could sit again and go back to school. I was very excited to hear both news. Especially being able to sit again because I had been standing a lot and for sleeping, I had to either sleep on one of my sides or my stomach which is my least favorite way of sleeping. I was also kind of happy to be able to go back to school because I was kind of tired of not being able to do my assignments at school and turn them in on time and I was also missing my friends.

Now, I have started going back to school after almost being gone for 2 months. I was very glad to be able to do choir again since I was not able to do that while I was gone and also piano since I did not know what I was supposed to be practicing. All of my teachers were very happy to see me. My friends were as well especially my friend in P.E., she does not really have any other friends in that class other than me and was very happy that I was coming back. I am still not totally able to sit so all of the classrooms that I have to go to for one of my classes has a taller chair in the back so that I can either kind of sit on it or lean on it. I am very happy to be able to get back in the swing of things do more of what I was not able to do for a long time.

Home For Two Weeks

These past two weeks of school I spent at home recovering from my surgery. My mom stayed home with me all of the days except for the second Friday, my dad stayed home with me.

The school part of being home for two weeks wasn’t too bad. Each day I woke up around 9 or 9:30 and ate breakfast. Then, I would check my email to see if any of my teachers had emailed more or posted something on Google Classroom. I would then do my P.E. report which was not the most fun. I did not like them because I am not good at summarizing and putting them into my own words. If I had anything to do in Physics, I would do that next. I only had one assignment the whole time that I have been gone from that class. I then did some French which is my favorite class so I was very excited to still be able to do this class while I was gone. The next class I did was Civics but all I did was write notes and did some vocabulary memorization. On a regular school day I would have Piano next but since I was not at school in person I was not able to do this class because I did not know what they would practice until I saw the grade on Skyward that I will have to make up when I get back. Then, I did English which was actually fun because I like reading short stories that I have never heard of before and they were fun to annotate. I also liked that I was able to update what I was doing on last week’s blog. The last class I have is Choir but again like Piano, I was not able to do this class either because right now they are learning the dance for Feeder School Tour and I am not able to do any strenuous moves right now. That was what I did these past two weeks for school.

Some other things that I did while being home was go to Springfield for two doctor appointments for them to check out how I was doing. Another place I went was to my Aunt Theresa and Uncle Pat’s house for Christmas with my mom’s side. This was very fun and I was glad that I was able to see all of my family since I hadn’t seen them since Thanksgiving.

These were all of the activities I did while I was at home for two weeks. I will be going back to school this coming week so I will be able to do my school work in person instead of online.

Some school supplies because I did a lot of school work these past two weeks.

1st Week back to School and Christmas Break

This 1st week back to school was a little bit difficult to do. I think that it was so difficult for me because my sleeping schedule was so messed up because I was not going to bed at the same time every night. Also, the first week back to school, I was not there the whole week because I had to get surgery done.

This past week was not that bad because I did not have to do any P.E. because the teachers were trying to get the freshmen who hadn’t had any P.E. yet, ready. Then, they started getting back to do normal games and fitness days on Thursday, the day that I was gone. The rest of my classes were not that bad either. In choir and piano we watched a movie and then started on learning one of our songs for the Feeder School Tour that is taking place in February. In Physics, we did a semester 2 survey so that our teacher could see what we needed from him different from last semester and it was kind of just a check in. In French, I started chapter 2. In Civics, we started a new chapter as well. In English, we did some New Year’s activities. So overall it was a very easy week.

Christmas break was much needed and a great time that I had to spend with my family. The first day of break I had a doctor’s appointment in Springfield. Afterwards, my sister and I went to an Asian food market to see what they had because since we started liking K-pop groups, we wanted to see if they had any of the foods that our favorite groups would eat in videos that we would watch of them. The Wednesday after that I had a few things that I had to do for school. One of them I had to sing at the Women’s Club because I am in the chamber choir and I had to go to Farm and Home to do bell ringing with my friend for NHS. On Christmas Eve, we went to a church service at 6:30 and came back home and had ham and swiss cheese sliders and clam soup. The next day, for Christmas, we did not get up until a little later into the morning and we had breakfast casserole and morning rolls. Then we went downstairs to open our gifts. That night we had Italian beef, cheesy potatoes, roasted green beans, and a salad that had pomegranate seeds, oranges, goat cheese, onion, and pistachios. The next week, my sister and I babysat some kids from our church because it was their Christmas break from school too. For New Year’s eve, we had snacks that were leftover from Christmas and we did karaoke until midnight. We then turned on some of the New Year’s live shows. The next day we went to my aunt and uncle’s house that are in Kankakee for Christmas. Then we came home and the next day was school.

Christmas Break

This coming Christmas break I am very excited because I will get to be home for awhile not really having to worry about school. Before when my Nana and Papa (my mom’s parents) were still alive, Christmas Eve we would go to Girard (where they live) and we would go to church at their church. After that we would go back to their house and a dinner that consisted of clam soup and other foods that I do not remember. Then, we would probably watch some Christmas movies and go to sleep. The next morning, it was usually my sister and I that would wake up first and go down and look at the presents and then we would wait till everyone else woke up. That night, my aunts, uncles, and cousins would come and we would have another meal and open more presents. We would probably play games and then go home.

Now, that they have passed, we go to our own church on Christmas Eve. We have Poppyseed Ham and Swiss sandwiches, clam soup, a bunch of different dips, and then maybe some desserts that we made awhile before. We usually also have homemade egg nog that my mom makes. We also end up watching What a Wonderful Life or White Christmas and end up falling asleep. Then, we actually go to sleep. The next morning, my sister and I go downstairs and then wait for everyone else to wake up to open presents. Our tradition for Christmas morning breakfast is Pecan sticky morning rolls and egg casserole. Then, that night we will go to one of my aunts houses to celebrate with the rest of my family.

This year, we are not getting together for Christmas until the first weekend of January because my mom’s brother and his wife are going to the Ozarks. It is a time to get away from everything that has happened for them this year.

During the Christmas time we also make a lot of cookies and candies, watch Christmas movies, play games, do crafts that we don’t get to really do while school is going on, and we decorate the house (we have the most Christmas decorations out of all of our decorations).

A few weeks later

The past three weeks have been jam-packed with a lot of fun events that I did with my family. The first weekend we went to Eastern again for Family Weekend and to see my sister again. They had many station with fun things that you and your family could do while you were there. My mom and I got a pillowcase spray painted with an EIU logo and panther, I made a colorful sand tower that did not end up working because one of the corners on it broke almost all of the sand mixed so it didn’t end up looking very good, my sister and her friend decorated a succulent plant, and we got pictures again in front of the big EIU sign. Then we went and ate at our favorite pizza place there. We then came back to campus to be part of a Spooky scavenger that took place all across campus and was very tiring but afterwards we got hot apple cider and hot chocolate. The next day we went out to Fox Ridge Park and made lunch at one of the pavillions there and then went home.

The next weekend, I went to the Peoria Civic Center with some people from the choir to see the musical, “Come From Away.” We went there on a bus and I ended up eating lunch on the bus since I did not have very much time between getting done at church, going home, and having to be back at the high school by 11:15. We got there and watched it. It was really good. The musical is very inspirational anyways but it was very nice to be able to see in person. Then, we got back around 4.

The next weekend started the beginning of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” rehearsals that I had to go to because I am in choir. That Sunday we had a run through rehearsal from 1-3. Then that whole week we had dress rehearsals from 6-8:30 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Then, this past weekend we had our two performances on Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 2pm. For this whole show, there were 4 alumni that came back and did the main roles of this one act opera. There was also one current senior that did a small role and PQ was one of the kings because she could not find one other alumni that wanted to do that last role. The whole choir were the shepherds that came to the mom and Amahl’s house one night after the kings had already arrived there.

The 9th and 10th Weeks of School

These past two weeks of school were awesome in some ways but not the best in others. Last Monday was Columbus Day so we did not have school but I had two appointments in Springfield. The first one was at 8:30 in the morning and the second one was at 3:30 in the afternoon. I still had to wake up at the same time I usually do for school. In between my appointments, my mom and I went to TJMaxx, Kohl’s, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and Aldi to go shopping. We went to Core Life Eatery to eat lunch and Starbuck’s before we went home. The bad part is that I have to get surgery sometime soon.

This past week, I had a lot of assignments that were due on Friday which was a little overwhelming. I had a packet in Physics originally due on Friday, I had to record a speaking quiz for French by Friday, I had a vocabulary quiz in Civics on Thursday and a test on Friday, and a poetry assignment in English. Even though I had all of these assignments due, I still stayed on top of what I had to do and got them all done on time.

Last week, on Wednesday was the NHS induction ceremony that I was a part of for giving a flower to one of the new members. That day during school, I got out of my 3rd hour class early and missed lunch, 4th, and 5th hours because of the NHS reaping activities and lunch over at the Lincoln Park District. The next day I helped out at the Health and Resource Drive that was held out at the Oasis Center parking lot. I did this to get hours for NHS. The next day I helped with concessions for the football game for NHS as well.

Last weekend, my parents and I went to EIU for their homecoming. We went to watch the parade and then went to all of the Alumni tents because my parents are alumni. We won a ton of cool things and got a lot of candy from the parade. Then we went to my sister’s campus ministry tailgate. After that we went and set up our own tailgate. We did not end up winning the football game but it was really close. We stayed at a hotel and went home Sunday afternoon.

Two More Weeks of School

These past two weeks of school were not very eventful. Two weeks ago on Saturday, I got a text from Eastern, saying that I had been accepted to go there. I am very excited about this. Last week, nothing large really happened.

In choir, we continued working on one of our Christmas songs called “‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.” It is a very fun song, it mainly go through the whole “Twas The Night Before Christmas” reading but in a song. We also continued to work on our script/song for our Christmastime performances. We usually do madrigals the week before Thanksgiving, but this we are doing an opera called “Amahl and the Night Visitor.” I thought that singing an opera would be really difficult but it actually is not.

This week and last week we had a test in Calculus. We had two tests because this chapter was a little long for us to remember all of the rules to take it all at once. I unfortunately did not do the best on the first one, I am not sure about the second one yet because I took it today and I actually did not finish it. Calculus is one of my hard classes so I end up not doing very well on the tests but it is better to take it on high school than to wait and take it in college.

This weekend is a three day weekend so my sister came home for the first time in a month and week. She had Friday before Columbus Day off so she came home Thursday night. She will have to go back Sunday night. I have Monday off but that will be filled with appointments and doing fun things in Springfield with my mom. This weekend we also finally go all of our Halloween decorations up. We are hopefully going to be doing many things while my sister home. On Friday night, I went to the football game to help with concessions for NHS hours.

Also, most of my senior pictures are done so I will hopefully be able to turn in my items for the yearbook soon and be able to see all of the pictures in person. For right now, here is a picture of my sister and I since she is home for the weekend and I love doing things with her, especially listening to music.

Next Few Weeks of School

The past two weeks of school actually were very good. Last week was Homecoming and this week was a normal but actually pretty fun week. The beginning of last week I went to Eastern Illinois University for a visit and ended up applying! All of last week, there were dress up days for homecoming. Monday was Sleeping Beauty so I wore pajamas. Tuesday was Monsters University so I wore a EIU shirt. Wednesday was Inside Out day so I first wore a dress for the senior picture in the morning and then changed into my class shirt. Thursday was Lilo and Stitch day so I wore a Hawaiian shirt and a lei around my neck. Then Friday was Turning Red so I wore a green long sleeve shirt with red Lincoln in the middle of the front of the shirt. Also on Friday was the parade which I went to with two of my friends and the homecoming football game that the choir had to sing the National Anthem at. The next day was the Homecoming dance. I went with one of my friends that helped me with all of my hair and makeup and mostly everything and I stayed with her all day until after the dance when she brought me home. The dance was really fun and I am glad that I went because I had never been to a school dance before this one. We also took pictures before at the body of water that is in front of the hospital in Lincoln and then we went to Osaka in Springfield for dinner which was also really good.

This past week was also nice. Last Sunday I got my senior pictures done. We went to Kickapoo, the depot, and the library to take pictures for that. I had 4 outfits that I ended up wearing for the pictures. That was also very fun and I cannot wait to see the pictures when they are ready!

First few weeks of School

In this post I will be telling you about the first few weeks of my senior year in high school so far. School has been going on for 16 days, so not that long but quite a bit has happened. Some things were good and some were not the best. A few days after I went back to school, we had to bring my sister to college and move her in.

A lot of my classes that I am in this year are pretty easy except for one which is Calculus. The first test we took I did not get the best grade but hopefully I can bring that grade back up and end the year with a good grade. The other thing with that class is that it is dual credit through Millikin. Since it is through Millkin, we have to pay for it and if I get a good grade, my parents will be getting back $150 so I am really trying to do well in the class. This past week in choir, I auditioned for the chamber choir and got in. Homecoming is next Saturday and I am going. This will be the first school dance I will have been to since being in high school.

Tomorrow, I am going to Eastern Illinois University for a college visit and also to visit my sister because she goes there. They are going to have some scholarships that they will be giving away and will be doing campus tours. They are also giving two free tickets to the first football game and there will also be a cookout. These are the things I have done in the first few weeks of my senior year.
